The Wakizashi (脇差) is the shorter of the paired swords known as Daisho and were worn by the Samurai Warrior Class in feudal Japan.
It was one of several short swords available for use by samurai including the yoroi tōshi, the chisa-katana and the tantō and was heavily favoured for close combat.
