HAN KOTE
The Han Kote (half gauntlets) are shorter versions of traditional Samurai Kote. They only covered the hand and lower part of the arm, instead of the full arm. The Han Kote allowed for greater maneuverability, as the elbow and shoulder were not restricted yet with less protection.
Armor such as Han Kote could be worn for self-defense when travelling, fitting comfortably with casual clothing. It is believed to have been used by shinobi (ninja), to provide defense without sacrificing their mobility. Han Kote became popular in the Edo Era, and are designed to be tied at the elbow or attached to an upper part of a sleeve or kikko armor.
